changefreq

changefreq is an optional per-URL tag that suggests how frequently a page changes, with values like always, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and never.

In practice, Google has said it largely ignores changefreq. Crawlers decide recrawl frequency from observed change history and other signals, not from a self-reported hint that any site could inflate. Bing gives it slightly more weight, but you should not rely on it to control crawl timing.

If you want to signal freshness, invest in an accurate lastmod instead — that is the field search engines actually act on. Including changefreq does no harm, but do not expect it to change how often your pages get crawled.
